Starting a printing on demand (POD) t-shirt business on Etsy can be a great way to turn your passion for design into a profitable venture. The beauty of the POD model is that you don’t have to worry about keeping inventory, and you can customize your products to cater to your customers’ needs. Note: Etsy isn’t the POD service but it provides the marketplace where we can integrate with print-on demand services like Printful or Printify.

Here are some steps to help you get started:

Research your niche

The first step to starting a successful printing on demand t-shirt business on Etsy is to research your niche. Look at what kind of designs are already popular, and try to identify gaps in the market that you can fill with your unique style. This can involve looking at popular trends and themes, as well as analyzing the demographics of your potential customers. In my case, my kid was getting into gymnastics and I had worked on the Victory Gymnastics branding, so I decided to work on gymnastics-focused designs => hence, Leaps of Style was born.

Choose your printing partner

Once you have a clear idea of your niche, it’s time to choose a printing partner. Etsy has several printing partners that you can work with, such as Printful, Gooten, and Printify. You will need to compare the prices and quality of the products offered by each printing partner, and choose the one that meets your needs. I went with Printful since I had previously used them before and I was more comfortable with them.

Create your designs

The next step is to create your designs. You can use software like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator to create high-quality designs that can be printed on t-shirts – or nowadays, you can also leverage Canva.com for designs too. It’s important to keep in mind the printing requirements of your chosen printing partner, such as the file format, size, and resolution.

Set up your Etsy store

Once you have your designs and printing partner in place, it’s time to set up your Etsy store. This involves creating a shop name, uploading your designs, and setting your prices (which can be very hard with shipping to think about). You will also need to create an About page and shipping and return policies to inform customers about your business.

Promote your store

Promoting your store is key to attracting customers and driving sales. You can use social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to showcase your designs and connect with potential customers. You can also run ads on these platforms to reach a wider audience. I have yet to use ads and I am relying on using organic way of finding my store (at least, for now.)

In summary, starting a POD t-shirt business on Etsy can be fun and rewarding. You can set yourself up for success and turn your passion for design into a profitable business. With dedication and hard work, you can build a loyal customer base and establish your brand as a leader in your niche.

Advantages of Print-On Demand

One of the biggest advantages of the POD business model is that it reduces the risk and costs associated with starting a business. By partnering with a POD supplier, businesses can launch their brand and start selling products without investing a large amount of money upfront. This is particularly beneficial for entrepreneurs who are just starting out and want to test the waters before committing to a larger investment.

Another advantage of the POD business model is that it allows businesses to create custom products on demand, which is particularly appealing to customers who are looking for unique and personalized products. Whether it’s a custom t-shirt, hoodie, or mug, customers can create products that reflect their personal style or interests.

In addition, the POD business model offers a sustainable and eco-friendly solution to the fashion industry’s waste problem. Since products are only created when ordered, there is no excess inventory that needs to be discarded or sold at a discount. This not only reduces waste but also helps businesses to operate more efficiently and sustainably.

Disadvantages of Print-On Demand

However, as with any business model, there are also challenges associated with POD. One of the biggest challenges is ensuring that the quality of the products is consistent and meets customer expectations. It’s important for businesses to partner with reputable POD suppliers and to perform quality control checks on the products before shipping them out to customers.

Another challenge is marketing and promoting the products effectively. With so many businesses operating in the POD space, it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd and attract customers. This requires a well-planned and executed marketing strategy that includes social media, email marketing, and paid advertising.

The POD business model offers many advantages for entrepreneurs looking to start a fashion business or for established businesses looking to expand their product offerings. By partnering with a reputable POD supplier, like Printful, businesses can offer unique and personalized products while reducing waste and operating sustainably. However, it’s important to be aware of the challenges associated with the business model and to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy to attract customers and stand out in a crowded market.

How about Amazon Merch?

There are some key differences to keep in mind when deciding between Etsy/Printful and Amazon.

First, Amazon Merch has a larger customer base than Etsy, which means that you may have access to a wider audience. However, competition may also be higher, as there are many other sellers on Amazon Merch – and there are many competitors that like to “borrow” other folks’ ideas.

Second, the process of setting up a store and uploading designs is slightly different on Amazon Merch than on Etsy. Amazon Merch has specific design guidelines and quality standards that must be followed, so it’s important to thoroughly review these before uploading your designs. Additionally, Amazon Merch operates on a tier system, where you must sell a certain number of products to move up to higher tiers and gain access to more features. Plus, if the uploaded design is questionable regarding intellectual property, then your design will be under review.

Third, pricing is different on Amazon Merch than on Etsy. Amazon Merch has a base price for each product, and sellers can set their own price above the base price. This means that sellers may have less control over pricing and may need to price their products higher to make a profit. But you shouldn’t price too high because other Merch users keep their prices competitive with similar designs.

Finally, Amazon Merch offers additional product options beyond t-shirts, such as sweatshirts, tank tops, and hoodies. This can allow sellers to offer a wider range of products and appeal to a broader audience.

In conclusion, while there are some key differences between using Amazon Merch and Etsy for your POD business, both platforms can offer opportunities for success. It’s important to carefully review the platform’s guidelines and features before choosing which one to use, and to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy to attract customers and stand out from the competition.

In today’s digital age, having an online presence is crucial for any organization, including schools and their Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs). While there are various web platforms available, not all of them are user-friendly or visually appealing. In this blog post, we will discuss how Squarespace can be used to update the look of a school’s PTA website from using GoDaddy’s web platform. We will also highlight the ease of use and maintenance, quick changes, and responsive, mobile device capability of Squarespace.

Ease of Use

One of the key advantages of using Squarespace is its user-friendly interface. The platform is easy to use, even for those who do not have any coding experience. Squarespace offers a drag-and-drop interface, which allows you to easily create and customize your website. You can add new pages, images, and content with just a few clicks. Additionally, Squarespace offers a variety of templates and design options, making it simple to create a visually appealing website that represents your school and PTA.

Maintenance

Squarespace also offers hassle-free maintenance. Unlike other web platforms, Squarespace handles all the technical aspects of website maintenance, including hosting, security, and software updates. This means you don’t have to worry about website downtime or the potential risks of hacking. Squarespace’s all-in-one platform allows you to focus on creating content and engaging with your school community rather than technical website maintenance.

Quick Changes

Another advantage of Squarespace is the ability to make quick changes. With Squarespace’s intuitive interface, you can make changes to your website in real-time. This is particularly useful for PTA events or updates that need to be added quickly. You can also preview your changes before publishing them, ensuring that your website looks exactly how you want it to.

Responsive, Mobile Device Capability

Finally, Squarespace is designed to be responsive and mobile-friendly. This is crucial as more and more people are accessing websites from their mobile devices. Squarespace’s templates are all designed with mobile optimization in mind, ensuring that your website looks great on any device. This is particularly important for school PTAs as parents and teachers may be accessing the website from their phones or tablets.

In conclusion, using Squarespace to update a school’s PTA website from GoDaddy’s web platform can provide numerous benefits. Squarespace is easy to use, offers hassle-free maintenance, allows for quick changes, and is mobile-friendly. These benefits can help PTAs create a professional-looking website that engages with their school community and promotes events, fundraising, and other activities.

When I interviewed at Salesforce for a sales engineer position, the recruiter mentioned that I would have to do a panel presentation to see how well I could handle the role. To say I was scared was a big understatement. I usually work behind the scenes on all my projects but I loved the Salesforce analytics platform (not Tableau) – but <s>Wave Analytics</s>, <s>Einstein Analytics</s>, <s>Tableau CRM</s>, CRM Analytics.

I was supposed to get a use case to prepare for the interview, but there was a misunderstanding. So, I decided to use a project that I worked on at my current job. The project involved combining the data from two (2) Salesforce orgs and creating a dashboard (with security) to show the health of the business and display some trending between the different LOBs.

Step 1: Understand Your Data

The first step in creating a multi-org dashboard is to understand the data you have. For this example, we will be using telecom data from two different Salesforce orgs: one for wireless and one for wireline. Each line of business had its own way of doing things, so trying to think of a way to present the data in a useful way that was understandable to the end user was hard.

Step 2: Identify Key Metrics

The next step is to identify the key metrics that will be displayed on the dashboard. This could include metrics such as churn rate, lines of service, revenue per customer, or customer lifetime value. By identifying these key metrics, I could start to plan for on how the data will be presented on the dashboard.

Step 3: Get the Data and Create the Dashboard

Once we have identified the key metrics and understand the data needed, I had to figure a way to get the data into one place and clean/shape the data for consumption. Before CRMA had a multi-org template to use, I had to leverage its native external connector. Once I set up the data syncs and objects, I created a dataflow to pull in the data to create the datasets that I would need. I would have to create another dataflow for the other org, so the dashboard could exist in the other org. Remember, not every user would have access to the other org.

Step 4: Add security

To make the dashboard secure and use row level security (meaning users could only see the data that they were meant to see), I had to think of a way to implement using a common data attribute that the company shared between both orgs: company id. Once I realized that this id could be used, I used the flatten transformation to create the hierarchy needed using company ids instead of the usual Salesforce role ids. After the transformations was completed and the datasets registered, I was able to add a security predicate utilizing my company id solution.

Step 5: Test and Refine

Once the dashboard was created, it was important to test it to make sure it was working and secure. This was done by end users who worked in both orgs and handled both wireline and wireless businesses. Based on the initial feedback received, I was able to refine the dashboard and make it even more effective. Folks didn’t have to go to two orgs and run Lightning reports separately and merge them together to get the full picture.

Conclusion

In conclusion, creating a multi-org dashboard using CRM Analytics for a multi-org use case provided to be an actual working scenario that was well received by upper management. But even better, I was offered the job at Salesforce using this project.

When it comes to branding, logos are a vital part of any organization’s identity. A good logo can help to establish a connection with your audience, convey your message, and create recognition. However, after some time, logos can become outdated and lose their relevance. This is why it’s important to refresh your logo periodically.

In this blog post, we will discuss how to refresh an older logo to something more current and simpler. The logo that I updated was the Victory Gymnastics logo. The old version can be seen below. While it was pretty nice, the client wanted something simpler – embedding this logo on gymnastics apparel was hard to read and the colors made it difficult to use on other colors.

Old version

Refreshing the Logo

An outdated logo can make your organization look out of touch and irrelevant yet a refreshed logo can help to convey that your organization is fresh and hip, attracting new audiences and increasing engagement with existing ones. Additionally, a refreshed logo can help to differentiate your organization from competitors, establish a strong identity, and make it more memorable.

Much Simpler Design

Simplicity is key when it comes to modern logo design. Rather than using complex shapes and colors, modern logos tend to be simple and easy to recognize. One way to refresh an older logo is to simplify the design. For instance, you could reduce the number of elements in the logo or simplify the shapes used. This will make it easier to recognize and will give it a modern feel.

Changing The Look

Since the client was fitness/sports-related, I felt that the “varsity jacket” look was something I could use in the new design. It involved using bold, block letters with a single color.

One Color Design

Using a single color in the logo would help to create a clean, modern look. A monochromatic color scheme is simple yet striking, and it can help to make your logo more versatile. By using just one color – in this case, blue – you can ensure that the logo looks great in all applications, from business cards to gymnastics leotards.

Below you can see the updated version of the logo: one color and simpler to read. The logo could be inverted to white on non-white backgrounds. When the logo was reduced in size, folks could still tell it was the Victory logo due to the shape.

New version

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, refreshing an older logo can help to modernize your organization’s identity, making it more relevant and memorable. To achieve this, you can simplify the design, and use just one color. By doing so, you can create a logo that is modern, versatile, and eye-catching, helping to establish a strong connection with your audience.
